How to Backup my Data on Shadow

Updated

To backup documents, pictures, and other data stored on your Shadow, use a cloud storage provider or USB drive. Continue reading this article for cloud storage recommendations or help connecting your USB drive to Shadow.

🚨 Important: Please back up your data before migrating to another offer, such as Ultra or Infinite. Your Shadow may reset your data while your setup is being configured.

Backup Using a Cloud Storage Provider

Below is a list of free cloud storage providers that are compatible with Shadow:

These services may offer more storage at an additional cost.

To see which option is right for you, click the links above for more information.

For help backing up your data into the cloud, contact the cloud storage provider for assistance.

Backup using a USB drive

To use a USB drive for saving your data, enable USB Peripherals Shadow. You can use a USB drive or an external hard drive for this process.

📝 Note:

  • Plug your USB drive into a blue USB 3.0 port.

  • Connect to the internet using an Ethernet cable or 5GHz Wi-Fi connection.

  1. Open the Shadow app on your device.

  2. Click the Settings icon icons8-settings-24.png > enable USB Peripherals.

  3. Click Install Drivers (if possible), then start your Shadow.

  4. On your Shadow, open the Quick Menu.

  5. Go to the USB Peripherals tab and select your storage device from the list. It should appear in your Shadow.

Plug your device into one of the USB 3.0 ports (blue port), located on the back of your Shadow Ghost or Box. The device should install automatically and appear on your Shadow. Try restarting your Shadow Ghost or Box if the device does not appear.

Why can't Shadow detect my USB drive?

If you've already enabled USB Peripherals and installed the drivers, test your connection to see if Shadow can support your USB drive. Some connections can support USB devices, as long as they have:

  • Fast upload speeds, up to 40Mb/s in most cases

  • Low latency, less than 30ms

  • No packet loss

Can I back up and restore my entire Shadow?

It is not currently possible to restore Shadows at this time, but you can backup your data and even transfer files to your Shadow.

I no longer have access to Shadow. Can I still backup my data?

Our Support team can provide you with a link to recover your files if they have not been deleted from our servers. Contact Support for assistance.

Why is my backup taking so long?

Transferring data between Shadow and an external storage device requires large amounts of data, which in turn requires fast upload speeds of up to 40Mb/s.

Some backups may also take longer depending on the number or size of the files being transferred.
