Available in Alpha for a long time, the Shadow VR app has finally been released, in Early Access. This means it’s accessible to all Shadow users with the dedicated hardware.
How does it work? What are the steps to follow to install it? And why is it so cool? We’ll go through everything in this article.
If you need to be convinced first, this paragraph is just for you. Otherwise, you can, of course, skip straight to the practical explanations.
The main advantage of this application is that you will be able to use all your SteamVR® games thanks to Shadow, while benefiting from the power of the latter. Which means:
- You can experience VR at a lower cost.
- You can have a 100% wireless setup, powered by the cloud (which is pretty neat). By the way, we're the only ones to offer this.
Okay, it's exciting, it's innovative, and you want to know more about it. So how does it work?
To enjoy this Early Access to the fullest, you'll need:
- An Oculus Quest 1 or 2
- An active Shadow account
- SteamVR® installed on your Shadow account
- And you’ll need to install the application via SideQuest on the Oculus Quest. We wrote down the details of the process in this Help Center article, and you can also find more information in the SideQuest resources.

Note that the app is not available on the Oculus Store, you can only get it on the SideQuest store and it only works with the SteamVR® library.
